first midwest bank
First Midwest Bank was founded in 1867 as the First National Bank of Onarga, Illinois. The bank grew steadily throughout the 20th century, and by the early 2000s, it had become the largest bank in Illinois outside of Chicago. In 2004, First National Bank of Onarga merged with First Midwest Bancorp, a holding company for several other community banks in the Midwest. The merger created a regional powerhouse with over $9 billion in assets.
