About Whatsapp

The American business Meta Platforms is the owner of WhatsApp, a freeware, cross-platform, centralised instant messaging, and voice-over-IP service that is accessible worldwide. It enables users to share photographs, documents, user locations, and other content in addition to text and voice messages, phone conversations, and video calls.

Jan Koum and Brian Acton, who had previously worked together for 20 years at Yahoo, founded WhatsApp. While WhatsApp joined Facebook in 2014, it is still run as a standalone app with a mission to create a messaging service that is quick and dependable everywhere.

The client application for WhatsApp is available on PCs and works on mobile devices. To sign up for the service, you must have a mobile phone number. WhatsApp developed a separate business app called WhatsApp Business in January 2018 that can communicate with the main WhatsApp client.

After purchasing an iPhone in January 2009, Koum and Acton were eager to enter the rapidly growing, multi-million dollar app market that they saw being created by the Apple App Store. Koum came up with the idea for an app that would show statuses for each person listed in your address book, such as "if you were on a call, your battery was low, or you were at the gym." At the West San Jose house of Koum's Russian friend Alex Fishman, they frequently had conversations. They understood that they would require an iPhone developer to advance the concept. Igor Solomennikov, a Russian developer, was found on RentACoder.com by Fishman, who then introduced Koum to him.

In late January 2015, Koum announced on his Facebook page that WhatsApp would be made formally available for PCs as a web client called WhatsApp Web: The web browser mirrors discussions and messages from your mobile device, so all of your messages are still available on your phone. "Our web client is simply an extension of your phone." Users of Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone devices were the only ones who could access the desktop version as of January 21, 2015. Later, support for iOS, Nokia Series 40, and Nokia S60 was also added (Symbian). Prior to an upgrade in October 2021, the WhatsApp user's smartphone needed to be connected to the Internet in order for the browser application to work.

Former Yahoo! employees Brian Acton and Jan Koum invented WhatsApp. It was not designed to be a texting app at first.

Except for Internet Explorer, all popular desktop browsers are supported. Web.whatsapp.com users can access WhatsApp Web's user interface, which is modelled around the standard Android UI. Users must scan their unique QR code using the WhatsApp app on their mobile device to gain access.
